Overview[]
The Hydraulic Press is the last of the basic production machines to be unlocked in both Assembly Line 1 and 2. It is used to process basic resources into plates that can subsequently be used in blueprints for more sophisticated products.
The Hydraulic Press stands out among the basic production machines in that it's unlock and upgrade costs are significantly higher (as is the sale price of it's product). Similarly, plates are not found as components in any of the early game blueprints.
Hydraulic Presses as an Early Game Strategy[]
While the exact numbers vary between Assembly Line 1 and 2, plates sell for significantly more than other basic products such as wire or gears. In fact, their sale price is in a similar range to the most basic crafter products. This alone seems like a good motivation to sell them, but when factoring in things like the per starter and per machine profit, plates hold a clear advantage against many of the lower tier crafter blueprints.

All Hydraulic Presses in AL2
Many players will bypass early blueprints and instead attempt to blitz to unlocking hydraulic presses. A large array of these machines may have a marginally higher cost of entry but requires significantly less effort to design than building lines for early products. This is particularly true in Assembly Line 1 where a common strategy to rapidly progress is to focus on nothing else until unlocking hydraulic presses, then focusing only on drones, and then transitioning directly to AI Robots.
